US Government Settles Medical Malpractice Suit

by Administrator 28. October 2008 04:10
A settlement has been reached in a medical malpractice suit filed by the wife and daughter of a man who died in a Veterans' Affairs hospital in 2004. William Meyer, age 45, of Lindon, Utah, was being treated for leukemia when he developed abdominal symptoms. Thinking it was merely the kind of stomach problems often caused by chemotherapy, hospital workers advised him to take over-the-counter medication. In actuality Meyers was suffering from an infection in his colon. He was taken to an emergency room later that night, where he waited nearly 10 hours before receiving antibiotics. He was declared brain dead and died within a matter of hours. His wife Pamela Meyer and their daughter filed a lawsuit, claiming that Meyer's life could have been saved if the hospital had acted correctly. The federal government has agreed to pay $950,000 in compensation for lost income and other damages inflicted on the family. A spokesperson for the government claims that the settlement is not an admission of guilt. For more information about legal options available to the victims of medical malpractice, c

Massachusetts Woman Files Lawsuit in Daughter's Cheerleading Death

by Administrator 21. October 2008 10:10
A Massachusetts woman recently filed a lawsuit against the cheerleading training center where her daughter suffered a fatal injury in 2005. Ruth Burns, 37, lost her daughter Ashley as the result of a cheerleading accident at the East Elite Cheer Gym in Tewksbury, MA. The 14-year-old girl fell while attempting a complex aerial dismount and suffered a ruptured spleen. Burns, who claims that the emotional trauma of her loss still affects her 3 years later, named the East Elite Cheer Gym, the U.S. All Star Federation for Cheer and Dance Teams, the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators, and several other parties as defendants in her lawsuit. If you or someone you love has been hurt due to the negligence of others, you deserve justice and compensation for your injuries.
