Toddler Injured by Truck

Wednesday night in Bamburg, a 2-1/2 year old girl was hit by a truck on US 301 N. Police responded to the accident at 7:55pm outside the New China restaurant. The girl was then flown to the Medical University of South Carolina-Charleston.

Police say that the truck driver will not be charged for the accident. He was traveling at 10mph when the girl ran out in front of him. Instead the investigation will focus on why the girl was unsupervised at the time.

Police Officer Killed in Crash

On Tuesday morning, an off duty police officer died in a two car collision. The accident occurred on US 17 near Green Pond at about 10:30am.

According to a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, the officer crossed the center line on the road and crashed into a tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured and the officer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man Dies in Crash

A man was killed in a single car accident on Randall Rd in McClellanville on Wednesday night. His Chevrolet Monte Carlo rolled over at 9:45pm, causing blunt force trauma and killing him.

Salmonella in Peanut Butter

A recent salmonella outbreak across 43 states has been linked to the peanut butter products of Peanut Corp's Blakely, GA facility. Over 470 people have become ill from these products, and over 90 of these had to be hospitalized.

In response to the outbreak, Peanut Corp has issued a recall on all of its peanut butter and peanut paste containing products. The cause of the outbreak is not yet known, but is under investigation.

Chain Reaction Collision Kills Driver

The John F. Limehouse Bridge to Johns Island was closed on Thursday morning due to a large chain reaction collision. One woman was killed, and several other drivers were injured. A Jaguar coming from Johns Island crossed the center line and collided with another car. The driver of the other car was killed in the collision. In addition, an SUV and a motorcycle were pulled into the collision. All were injured, and the motorcyclist suffered head trauma. Accidents like this can cause terrible injuries.

Multi Vehicle Collision Injures Motorists

At the end of the year, two vehicles were involved in a crash on I-95 southbound at the 43 mile marker. There were seven people involved and either injured or killed. A tractor trailer rear ended a minivan, sending it into the wooded median and causing it to hit several trees. Five people were trapped in the wreckage of the accident, one of them died, and the seventh was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.
