Cycling Safety Laws Not Being Enforced

by Administrator 30. July 2009 03:13

Cycling safety laws meant to protect bicyclists passed a little over a year ago. Those laws have not been enforced very well, leaving cyclists somewhat unprotected.

The law states that drivers must stay a safe distance from cyclists. An infraction that causes injury can lead to a $1000 fine. Also, harassing, taunting or throwing things at cyclists can lead to a minimum fine of $250.

These laws need to be enforced to protect cyclists. Currently, South Carolina has a cycling accident fatality rate that is nearly double the national average.

Drivers Asked to Slow Down

by Administrator 27. July 2009 02:34

Interstate 26 is currently undergoing an 18 month, $66 million construction project that will build new interchanges at Remount Rd and Aviation Ave and will widen the highway from 6 to 8 lanes.

There are generally around 60 workers on the road at any given time. Unfortunately, some drivers are not considerate enough to slow down and change lanes to allow these workers to perform their jobs in safety. This has led to a few minor injuries so far and could lead to major injuries if the problem is not taken care of.

If you or someone you know has been injured by a negligent driver, contact the Charleston pedestrian accident attorneys of The Steinberg Law Firm at 843-720-2800.
