Man Sought in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A man who is wanted for questioning in a fatal hit-and-run in Orangeburg may be in Houston as he prepares to flee to Mexico, authorities said.

30 year-old Enrique Medina was involved in a head-on collision on Sunday evening that resulted in the other driver’s death. Medina abandoned his vehicle and acquired another car. He reportedly called his family from Atlanta on Monday, saying he was heading to Houston.

Medina is believed to be driving a white 2003 GMC Envoy with South Carolina plates DSS-252. Police officials think he may abandon this car before heading to the Mexican border.

Medina is 5ft 7” and weighs 170 pounds.

Fort Mill Teen Dies in Crash

A student at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill was killedin a car accident on Saturday night.

According to South Carolina state police troopers, 17 year-oldLuke Hoover was driving on Holbrook road around 10:15 p.m. Saturday night, whenhe lost control of his vehicle while passing another car. Hoover skidded offthe road and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authoritiessay he was wearing a seat belt.

Rick Morris, a Hoover family friend, remembers Luke as “Ajoy to be around.”

“You’d go up to him, he’d come up and hug you. He wouldinitiate the hugs and it was pleasant just to see him coming towards you.” SaidMorris.

Student, Teacher Killed in Head-On Collision

A Sunday school teacher and a college student were killed ina two-vehicle crash on Saturday.

 

According to police, 18 year-old Gregory Shull of Lexingtonwas driving on U.S. 501 when his car crossed the median and collided with avehicle driven by 48 year-old Deborah Peavy of Aynor. Both drivers werepronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

South Carolina state police say that Shull was wearing aseat belt, and Peavy was not.

Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Accident

A man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Willmington.

David Tollefson was driving his motorcycle on Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington when a car pulled out into the street in front of him. Swerving to avoid hitting the car, Tollefson lost control of his motorcycle. He then crashed into the back of the car.

Tollefson was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for serious injuries. The driver of the car was not injured.

Last year close to 5,000 people were killed in motorcycle accident. The most common cause of these fatal accidents is motorcycles colliding with other vehicles.

Woman Claims Texting, Not Drinking Caused Crash

A woman who claimed she was writing a text message when shestruck another vehicle head-on has been charged with drunken driving.

26 year-old Margaret A. Towne, of Braintree, has beencharged with drunken driving, driving without a license and leaving the sceneof an accident. According to Braintree Deputy Police Chief Russell Jenkins, thecrash occurred early Saturday morning on Forbes Road when Towne’s MitsubishiSUV struck a Honda Accord being driven by a 20 year-old woman with a21-year-old male passenger.

Towne swerved into the wrong lane of travel, and the driverof the Honda was unable to avoid the car. Jenkins said that after the collision“Towne allegedly asked if the couple was OK but fled on foot when the man askedif she was drunk. The man gave chase and caught up with Towne a short distanceaway, where Patrol Officer William Cushing Jr. joined them.”

Towne told Cushing it was texting not drinking that causedthe accident. After failing several sobriety tests Towne was charged with DUI.

Man Flees Scene After Fatal Crash

Police are looking for a Hispanic male, who left the sceneof a two-car collision, which left a Norway man dead early Sunday morning.

41 year-old Christopher Allen Wood, of Willow Swamp Road,died following a two-car collision, which took place around 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson of the South Carolina HighwayPatrol said Enrique Medina, 30, of 438 Atbrad Road, was traveling in a 2000Chevy pickup on secondary road 162. Police say Medina drove his car across thecenter line and struck Wood head-on.

Robinson said Wood sustained fatal injuries and died at thescene.

Medina fled the scene. “At this time we are looking for aHispanic male,” said Robinson.

Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall said Wood diedof blunt force trauma sustained in the motor vehicle accident.
