Charleston man sentenced to prison for fatal DUI crash

A man from Charleston was sentenced to up to ten years in prison on Monday for being involved in a drunk driving crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

The accident occurred last September on MacCorkle Avenue. The man was driving a car when he slammed into the back of a motorcycle. The man on the motorcycle died shortly after the accident, and the Charleston man was found to have been drinking prior to the crash.

The man pled guilty to drunk driving and was held in jail for three months. He will soon begin serving his prison sentence, and he has expressed remorse and regret for his actions.

Charleston official arrested for aggravated DUI

A jail official from Charleston, West Virginia was arrested on charges of aggravated DUI early Sunday morning. The arrest resulted in the man's suspension from his job of presiding over the county's jail.

The man was brought in a little before 4:00 a.m. after officers found him driving recklessly while under the influence of alcohol. He was issued a breathalyer test and blew over a 0.15. The official spent one night in his own jail before he was released.

The official will be suspended from his job without pay until his court date, which will be sometime next month.

Charleston Car Accident Results in DUI Charge

A car accident near Charleston resulted in a drunken driving charge for a Coos Bay man.

According to officials with the Coos County Sheriff's Department, 44 year-old Jimmy Bogue was driving a Ford Taurus on Sand Dollar Lane shortly after 1:00 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. The Taurus left the roadway and crashed into a pole. Emergency responders from the Charleston Rural Fire Protection District worked to extricate Bogue from his vehicle.

Bogue was transported by ambulance to Bay Area Hospital before being released into the custody of the Coos County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to the Coos County jail on charged of driving under the influence and driving while suspended. He was released on citation later that morning, according to a jail spokeswoman.

S.C. law enforcement cracks down on drunken driving

Law enforcement officials in South Carolina are tightening up on drunken driving in the weeks leading up to Labor Day weekend. Last weekend, these extra patrol units took many people to jail during the first weekend of the crackdown.

The new program is called Sober or Slammer and is focusing on reducing DUI and DWI related crashes which are the main cause of traffic fatalities on South Carolina roadways.

The program will run from August 20 to September 6 and a commerical has been airing to let people know about the extra enforcement. As of August 15, there have been 136 fatalities in the 100 days of summer.

Man charged in DUI accident

A man from Lexington, South Carolina has been charged with drunk driving following a car accident that killed his wife.

The accident occurred at 8:15 on May 14 when the couple was driving on Old Orangeburg Road when their car went off the road. After leaving the roadway, the car sideswiped a utility pole and landed in a ditch.

The 44-year-old driver was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries and his 45-year-old wife was pronounced dead at the scene. A few days after the accident, the man was arrested for DUI that resulted in death charges.

Drunk driving is a serious crime that can cause serious injury and has devastating effects on all involved. Our thoughts are with the victim's family.
