Cantaloupe Recalled for Salmonella Contamination

by Administrator 25. March 2011 03:27

The Florida based fruit producers, Del Monte Fresh, have recalled almost 5,000 cases of cantaloupe that were found to be contaminated with bacteria that could cause Salmonella.

The fruit was shipped to several locations throughout the United States and was sold from March 10 to March 21. The FDA forced the company to recall the cantaloupe after investigations into twelve cases of Salmonella concluded the cantaloupe was the cause.

This type of Salmonella, known as Salmonella Panama, has been found to cause severe stomach problems, as well as meningitis in extreme cases. Anyone who suspects that they have eaten the contaminated cantaloupe should immediately report to a doctor.
