Man Killed in South Carolina Car Crash

A South Carolina man has died following a Saturday morning car crash in Anderson County.

According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, 84 year-old James Campbell was pulling out of a parking lot in a 2003 Ford Ranger on the S.C. 28 and S.C. 81 Bypass shortly before 10:00 a.m. when the vehicle was struck by a 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck. Campbell was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m.

The driver of the Chevrolet and his passenger were not seriously injured in the crash.

The Chevy struck Campbell's vehicle on the driver's side door, trapping him inside. Shore said Campbell had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but died of head, neck and lower abdominal injuries.

Authorities have ruled the death an accident.
