It may surprise some people to know that auto accidents arethe leading cause of death for children under 12. This may have something to dowith the fact that less than one out of every five kids between the ages offour and eight is riding in a car booster seat.

According to the Center for Disease Control, booster seatsreduce the risk of injury by 59% for children ages 4 to 7. The National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration recommends that children be restrained in abooster seat until they are 4 ft 9 inches tall.

Car seats are also extremely important for children.Properly installed car seats reduce the risk of death in accidents by 71% forinfants and 54% for toddlers. Under South Carolina law infants should ride inrear facing car seats until they are at least one year of age or 20 pounds.Children in South Carolina between the ages of 1 and 5 should ride in aforward-facing safety seat or harness system.
