A man from Florida was killed in a Charleston motorcycle accident on US-17 early Thursday evening.

According to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamera Willard, 31 year-old James Marlow, of Ocala, FL, died of multiple trauma after a car collided with his motorcycle shortly after 5:00 p.m. Thursday. The accident occurred in an area between Farrow Parkway and Harrelson Boulevard, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman, Lace Corporal Paul Brothers. Marlow was rear-ended by a 1987 Oldsmobile as it slowed to make a left turn off the US-17 Bypass, police say.

Investigators say Marlow was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. A second passenger on the motorcycle was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after the crash. Officials could not comment on the nature or extent of the passenger's injuries.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, 18 year-old Gwendolyn T. Rich, of Myrtle Beach, was uninjured in the accident and has been questioned by on-scene investigators.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families and friends.
