What is flashing?

Flashing is any piece of material that does not allow to water to pass through it and which is installed at the edge of building component to keep water out of the building. Flashing can be made of metal or a synthetic membrane material. There many different locations at which flashing must be installed on each building and many different types of flashing that must be installed on each building. Among other areas, flashing is typically installed on the roof, around windows and doors, and at joints in masonry.

While flashing can seem as simple as a cheap piece of aluminum or plastic, having flashing installed and installed properly is crucial to keeping moisture of out a building. We have seen cases where massive amounts of damage have been caused to a building because a cheap piece of flashing was not installed or flashing was not installed properly.
