Steinberg Law Firm Gives Away 1,000 Bike Helmets to Encourage Bike Safety

The Steinberg Law Firm held a bike safety event during the first couple of weeks of October in order to raise awareness of the perils of cycling while it is dark outside, and to provide resources for the prevention of bicycle accidents. This cause affects children, students and all cyclists in the Charleston area. Riding your bicycle during nighttime hours is dangerous, and there is potential to experience a serious personal injury, especially one involving the head and spine.

In an effort to help prevent personal injury, The Steinberg Law Firm donated over 1,000 helmets and bike lights within the last two weeks, and distributed many reflector shirts and other bike accessories free of charge. This will help make certain that all students and cyclists will be safely prepared for darker days when daylight savings begins on November 5th.

Events were held at Memminger Elementary, Mitchell Elementary and Sanders Clyde Elementary schools. Steinberg Law Firm Attorney Tom White launched the Bike Safety Campaign. As an avid cyclist, he is very passionate about this cause. As a cyclist, he sees the rising liability, especially with the increasing numbers in our traffic (with over 50 families moving to the city a day, accident rates are up, and there are few bike lanes to protect cyclists). Tom saw an opportunity to give back, and that is how this came about. Attorney Tom White says “It is important for bicyclists to be well prepared and equipped with helmets and other bike accessories in the event of a motor vehicle accident, which can cause severe personal injury to bicyclists.”

Tom White spent his formative years in the textile-producing Upstate of South Carolina, and spent his summers working third shift in the cotton mills. As a result of that experience, he desired to help working people. For the last 15 years, Tom White has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers for Workers’ Compensation.
