Nissan’s total number of recalled vehicles due to defective airbags now amount to more than 660,000

Nishiku, Yokohama, Japan-based automaker Nissan Motor Corp.’s Nissan North America Inc. is issuing a recall for more than 226,000 additional vehicles in the global market due to issues of a defect in their vehicles’ airbags, making the sum of the recalled vehicles related to this issue amount to 664,628.

This statement is released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Saturday, July 26, noting that the recall includes the Infiniti, Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra cars for the model years 2002 to 2004.

Defective airbags have been the cause other car brands’ vehicle recalls over the recent past years. Such vehicle brands include Ford, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Chrysler, and Mazda.

The airbags from the recently recalled vehicles were manufactured by Tokyo-based auto parts supplier Takata Corp.

These airbags have the danger of their inflators getting ruptured, meaning such an action can cause metal fragments to fly out into the bodies of the car’s vehicles once thy deploy the airbags.

Nissan representative Brian Brockman reported that they have yet to gain information if there had been any injuries or accidents related to the recall.

Reports from the NHTSA showed that dealers will start replacing the faulty indicators for the latest round of recalls on Monday, August 11, free of charge.
