Charleston Food Truck Injury Attorneys

South Carolina Work Comp Lawyers

South Carolina’s vibrant food truck scene is a hallmark of the state – and it’s triggering a rise in food truck interest throughout the United States. Viewers nationwide are tuning in for news on South Carolina’s food trucks through shows like the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” which filmed in Myrtle Beach in March 2025.

Food trucks are a fun, festive way to try new treats, enjoy outdoor events, and have fun with friends throughout South Carolina. However, food trucks can also be a source of risk and potential injury. If you’re injured while eating from or working on South Carolina’s busy food trucks, speak to an experienced food truck injury lawyer. The team at the Steinberg Law Firm can help.

Food Truck Injury Risks

Food trucks are fun, but they can also be dangerous. Common injuries associated with food trucks include food poisoning, car accidents, and fires and explosions.

Food Poisoning

Every US state has rules for food handling in commercial kitchens – and for good reason. Food poisoning can cause serious injuries. The CDC estimates that 9.9 million people experience food poisoning each year, leading to approximately 53,000 hospitalizations and nearly a thousand annual deaths.

These risks can occur with food trucks as well. In 2023, a Washington food truck was shut down after 34 people got food poisoning. While a 2015 study found that food poisoning rates from food trucks are about equal to restaurant rates, a CNN Health article recommends that food truck patrons watch closely for basic sanitation procedures and never eat lukewarm food from a food truck.

Car Accidents

Part of the fun of food trucks is their ability to travel to various locations. However, any vehicle on the road can become part of a car accident. Food trucks increase the risk of a serious injury on the road when they are poorly maintained, driven unsafely, or mount propane tanks and other flammables on the back of the vehicle.

For example, a food truck rollover crash in Arizona in June 2025 resulted in hazmat crews being called to the scene to clean up various liquids that spilled from the truck. Crews took extra care to clean up the crash in part because it occurred near a school.

In 2024, an employee of a food truck company in Sumter, South Carolina, was injured when the driver had to take emergency steps to get off the road safely after the truck caught fire.

Fires and Explosions

Food trucks are often small, mobile commercial kitchens. They use hot surfaces to cook, hot water to clean, and propane or other flammable materials to provide that heat. Food trucks thus increase the risk of a fire or explosion. Burn injuries are among the most common injuries suffered by food truck workers, and food truck patrons can be harmed as well.

In May 2024, a Lunch Lady food truck went up in flames in Bluffton. The owner’s husband was taken to MUSC Charleston for treatment of burn injuries. A similar incident in Vancouver, Washington, in 2024 left four people injured.

Compensation For Food Truck Injuries

After an injury, you may face medical bills, lost wages, and other losses. You may want to hold a negligent party accountable, but you may struggle to do so while trying to recover from what happened.

A food truck injury lawsuit seeks compensation for losses caused by negligence leading to injuries. Compensation may include:

  • Current and future medical expenses
  • Lost wages, including future lost wages if your injuries prevent you from working
  • Lost or damaged property
  • Physical and emotional pain and suffering

If an injury claims a life, compensation can also include losses like funeral expenses and the loss of a loved one’s care and support.

Every injury is unique. If you’ve been injured in a food truck accident, talk to an experienced attorney to learn more about your options.

What to Do If You Suffer a Food Truck Injury

If you’re injured in an incident with a South Carolina food truck:

  • Put safety first. Move out of harm’s way if possible, and call 911 for assistance.
  • Get medical care as soon as possible. Visit a local emergency room or consult a doctor as soon as possible.
  • Document the scene. Take photos, record videos, and talk to witnesses.
  • Save any paperwork related to your accident or injuries.

Next, speak to an experienced food truck accident injury attorney. An attorney can help you gather evidence, figure out what happened, and help you seek compensation for the injuries you suffered.
