2 killed in train accident in Chesterfield County

Two people were killed on Monday morning in Chesterfield County when the pickup truck they were riding in was hit by an Amtrak train.

The accident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. on East Market Street. The pickup truck was occupied by a 52-year-old man and a 56-year-old man, and it is unknown why the train, carrying 244 passengers, collided with the truck.

It was reported that the train intersection did not have crossing guards to warn of oncoming trains. The area only had a stop sign. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating this train accident.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with the friends and families of the two men who died in this accident.
