2020 Christmas In Charleston

The holiday season in Charleston is something truly remarkable. The city transforms into a spectacular scene full of lights, parades, outdoor markets, and more. Whether you are visiting Charleston for the holidays or have lived here for years, there is always something new and exciting to do during the holiday season. Here are some activities that you and your family can enjoy this year.

Festival of Lights

This year, one of our favorite Lowcountry traditions will be a bit different. In order to enforce social distancing, the 2020 Holiday Festival of Lights experience will take place from the comfort of your own vehicle. Starting November 13 and running through the end of the year, the driving tour is open from 5:30-10:00 PM nightly, and features a variety of decorations and displays.

Holiday music and park information is available by tuning into 1620 AM on your radio. To help maintain social distancing, guests are asked to stay in their vehicles unless accessing the restroom. For your convenience, concessions are available for purchase from your vehicle. Enjoy this specially curated car experience as you pass millions of twinkling lights and catch magical surprises along the way!

Christmas Tours in Charleston

With the arrival of the holiday season, Charleston shows off its holiday spirit with festive winter decorations throughout the historic city. The best way to take in the sights and sounds of Christmas in South Carolina is to go on a walking tour that reveals the city’s rich history and colorful past. Wreaths, garland, poinsettias, decorative lights add a majestic element to the quaint and charming architecture that lines Charleston’s historic streets. Holiday walking tours are a great way to safely enjoy a holiday experience even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Christmas Parades

A longstanding holiday tradition, there are a number of Christmas parades in the Charleston area that bring the community and our families together to celebrate this festive time of year. Safely attend one of the many parades around Charleston and enjoy marching bands, floats, and more. While the City of Charleston’s Holiday Magic parade has yet to be finalized, virtual offerings will be announced for family-friendly fun.

This year’s Summerville Christmas Parade will go on as normal and aims to promote positivity and celebrate the season while bringing the local Summerville community together. Another exciting option to celebrate the holiday season is the 25th Annual Christmas Light Parade in Mount Pleasant featuring brilliantly lit floats. If you are looking to celebrate at a distance and experience a holiday celebration from the water, the Holiday Parade of Boats will take place on December 12th. This is Charleston’s premiere on-the-water holiday event and will feature a grand firework finale.

The city of Charleston has a variety of different options for you and your family to enjoy during the holiday season. From parades, to festivals, to walking tours and more, there’s plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy.
