Do You Have a Zantac Cancer Case?

Since its emergence on the market in 1983, millions of people have taken the antacid drug Zantac, believing it to be safe. However, research has long showed that long-term use of Zantac could be linked to the development of certain types of cancers.

Zantac treats conditions related to the overproduction of stomach acid, such as heartburn, reflux and stomach ulcers. Zantac is a brand-name form of the drug ranitidine. The brand name, Zantac, is often used to refer to other forms of ranitidine heartburn medications. It is available as a prescription and over the counter and has been widely recommended for daily, long-term use by medical professionals, even safe for pregnant women to use regularly.

In April 2020, the Food and Drug Administration recommended that all ranitidine drugs be immediately withdrawn from the market, because they contain high levels of carcinogenic N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). The recommended maximum daily NDMA exposure is 100 nanograms but some samples of Zantac were found to contain more than 3,000 times that amount. The long term, daily doses frequently taken by Zantac users makes these elevated levels of NDMA especially dangerous.

How NDMA gets into Zantac and what factors affect the amount of NDMA present is still being investigated but the link between it and cancer has long been suspected. The companies that make Zantac have even been accused of being aware of the dangerous levels of NDMA in the medication and willfully concealing this information and the risk of cancer in order to keep the highly profitable drug on the market.

Lawsuits against the makers of Zantac have already been filed across the United States. You may also have a case against these companies if you took Zantac regularly for a year or more (or, four or more months of regular use in pregnancy), and then subsequently received a cancer diagnosis.

If you suspect that your use of Zantac is related to a cancer diagnosis, it is important to speak with one of the experienced South Carolina Zantac cancer lawsuit attorneys at the Steinberg Law Firm as soon as possible. You could be entitled to significant compensation for the harm caused by these drugs and the companies that put profits over the safety of its customers.
