Grandmother Hits, Kills 7-Year-Old

A 7 year-old girl was killed Sunday evening when sheapparently ran in front of her grandmother’s car.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 52 year-oldMary Butler, was driving east on Verner Creek Court shortly after 7 p.m. onSunday when her granddaughter, Naomi Haile-Hiywot, ran into the path of thevehicle and was hit. Officials say Naomi was transported to Greenville MemorialHospital where she died of head injuries.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said that speed wasnot believed to be a factor in the crash, but the accident remains underinvestigation.
