Steinberg Law Firm Supports Local Nursing Home Residents with Holiday Donations

Steinberg Law Firm selected Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley senior communities for holiday giving campaign featuring tablet donations, wish lists and more.

This holiday season, Charleston-area elderly residents are getting to safely experience the comfort and joy associated with typical holiday seasons outside of a pandemic. On the heels of a particularly difficult year for the area’s senior citizens, local personal injury law practice Steinberg Law Firm invested in a community outreach campaign that specifically benefits the area’s elderly residents who’ve faced isolation in a year marked by COVID-19 scares and precautions.

Thanksgiving Meal Delivery

Initiating the holiday-season giving was a Nov. 18 Thanksgiving-style dinner for Somerby of Mt. Pleasant’s 255 long-term care residents to enjoy in the safety of their individual rooms. The meal, locally catered by Hamby Catering & Events, featured comfort-food Thanksgiving staples including turkey and gravy, whipped mashed potatoes, and cornbread dressing.

“The residents were all very happy and grateful to Steinberg Law Firm for the delicious Thanksgiving meal,” said Mark Summerville, Somerby’s Director of Catering Services. “They were still talking about it the following day. It was an extremely generous offer! Comfort food always warms one’s heart and stomach.”

Video Calling Tablets

The Steinberg team continued sharing the holiday-season goodwill through two more campaigns in December – a generous bulk donation of Echo Show tablets and a unique adopt-a-resident program for all long-term care residents of Heartland at West Ashley. The tablets, used for video calling, were purchased to help residents stay connected to friends and family members they’ve spent the majority of the previous year separated from out of safety considerations.

Adopt-A-Resident Wish Lists

The unique adopt-a-resident program, also benefiting Heartland residents, matches Steinberg employees to “wish list” items from each resident. Steinberg employees and family members divided up the list to fulfill every item – and included some personal touches in the gift, including handmade holiday cards from children of employees. Both the tablets and wish list items for residents are set for an in-person, COVID-safe delivery from Steinberg Law Firm to Heartland the week before Christmas.

“Especially this year, it’s a privilege to be able to think creatively and invest in giving initiatives that truly make an impact,” said Yani Smith, Steinberg Law Firm’s Director of Marketing and Community Outreach. “Steinberg Law Firm is proud to be an advocate year-round for the elderly through our ongoing legal work, and supporting them in the holiday season after such an especially challenging year is a true joy.”
