Woman dies due to elevator malfunction

A 41 year-old woman was killed after an elevator malfunctioned, trapping her between the wall and the elevator car.

The accident occurred in Manhattan early this morning as the woman was on her way to work in an midtown office building. The elevator doors closed on her as she was walking in and then abruptly began to move to the second floor, killing her. Two people inside saw everything and were taken to the hospital for psychological trauma.

So far, the cause of the accident has not been determined. However, an inspection in June shows that a defect was found. An investigation by the New York City Department of Buildings will be conducted.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
