Attorney Malcolm M. Crosland Elected to the Board of Directors for Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic
Free clinic provides primary medical care to uninsured patients living below the poverty line on Johns, Wadmalaw and James islands, South Carolina
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Steinberg Law Firm announced on Friday that attorney Malcolm Crosland has been elected as the newest member of the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, Board of Directors. A longtime advocate for injured people, Crosland said he is excited to be part of an organization that provides access to medical care for low-income patients.
“I’m very excited to join the Board of Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic,” he said. “I look forward to helping the clinic fulfill its mission to continue providing outstanding free primary medical care to the residents of James Island, Johns Island and Wadmalaw Island.”
Staffed by 34 volunteer doctors and 24 volunteer nurses, Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic offers primary medical care free of charge to patients without insurance who live or work on Johns Island, South Carolina, or nearby Wadmalaw and James Islands. The clinic has served over 4,000 patients since 2008 and provide $1.3 million in in-kind services.
Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic serves patients living at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level (in 2016, an approximate annual income of $40,000 for a household of three). In addition to primary and family medical care, the clinic also offers cost-saving generic prescription medications, free imaging services through a partnership with Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston and regularly scheduled specialty clinics.
Crosland spent his youth in Charleston. At Steinberg Law Firm, he litigates cases on behalf of personal injury victims in civil court and represents workers hurt on the job before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission, earning Crosland multiple recognitions in the annual Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers lists.
He is also actively involved in organizations that advocate for the injured. Crosland currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group and previously served as President for the nonprofit Injured Workers’ Advocates.
