Case Result: $1,000,000 Settlement for Client Initially Put at Fault by Police

Our Investigation Found Evidence That Showed Truck Driver to Blame in I-26 Crash

Steinberg Law Firm attorney and partner Steven Goldberg recently secured a $1,000,000 settlement for a family injured in an interstate collision caused by a commercial truck driver.

Our client was driving on I-26 with his children in the vehicle when a commercial truck moved into his lane, forcing his vehicle into a spin and causing it to crash into a guardrail. In the immediate aftermath of the wreck, law enforcement spoke with both drivers and cited our client as being at fault.

But our client knew that was not how the crash happened.

He recalled that an off-duty police officer may have been traveling nearby and may have captured the wreck on video. Our firm immediately began working to locate that officer and secure the footage. After approximately three months of investigation, we successfully tracked down the officer and obtained the recording.

The video changed everything. It clearly showed that the commercial truck moved into our client’s lane and caused the collision. The footage directly contradicted the truck driver’s account of the wreck.

Our client’s children fortunately suffered only minor cuts and bruises. Their father, however, sustained a herniated disc and underwent multiple injections as part of his treatment. His medical bills were less than $30,000, but the case was about far more than medical expenses. It was about proving the truth of how the wreck occurred and holding the responsible driver and company accountable.

During litigation, our attorneys deposed the commercial truck driver and confronted him with the video evidence. Through that testimony, we established that his version of events given to the investigating officer and in his written statement to his employer was not consistent with what the video showed. We also discovered that the truck’s dash camera was not operational on the day of the collision, making the independently obtained video even more important.

What began as a case in which our client had been blamed for causing the wreck ended with a $1,000,000 recovery after our firm uncovered the evidence that proved the truth.

“Justice begins with the truth, but it often takes relentless determination to get there. We never stopped pushing for answers, and that persistence helped secure a result that truly reflected the strength of our client’s case.” – Steven Goldberg, Attorney, Steinberg Law Firm

At the Steinberg Law Firm, we understand that an initial police report does not always tell the full story. When a client has been injured through no fault of their own, we investigate thoroughly, pursue the evidence, and fight to hold negligent drivers and companies responsible.
