Stanley Mug Recall Alert: What You Need to Know

The viral brand best known for its large cups with handles has announced a significant recall on some of its products. While no company is immune to occasional hiccups, Stanley, best known for their Stanley Quencher, is currently addressing a safety issue that may affect your favorite tumbler or travel mug. Here is everything you need to know about the recall and what to do if your product is affected.

A Century-Old Legacy

For over a century, Stanley has been a staple for quality drinkware and outdoor gear. Established in 1913, inventor and engineer William Stanley Jr. revolutionized beverage storage by creating the first all-steel vacuum bottle. These innovations provided more durability and a better solution for keeping drinks hot or cold for hours, replacing the typically fragile glass bottles.

Stanley has become a household name in recent years after going viral on TikTok. Popular products like the Stanley Quencher and the special edition cups have consistently sold out across the United States.

The Recall Announcement

According to the company’s announcement on December 12, 2024, Stanley recalled over 2 million travel mugs due to a potential safety issue. Specifically, the Switchback and Trigger-Action Travel Mugs have been identified as having faulty lids that may pose a burn risk.

The company stated that exposure to heat can cause the lid threads to shrink, potentially detaching while using and spilling the hot liquids inside on unsuspecting users.

So far, Stanley has received 91 complaints worldwide, with 38 reported burn injuries

Defective Product Injuries

While any product can be faulty, some defects lead to serious injuries. Product defects generally fall into three main categories:

  1. Design Defects: Flaws in the product’s design exist even before manufacturing begins, making the product inherently unsafe.
  2. Manufacturing Defects: The product was designed correctly, but an error occurred during the manufacturing process, resulting in a faulty product.
  3. Marketing Defects: These involve inadequate labeling, instructions, or warnings, which fail to properly inform users about potential risks.

If you’ve been injured by a defective product and require medical treatment, it’s crucial to understand your rights. A product liability lawyer can help identify the responsible parties—whether it’s the designer, manufacturer, or marketer of the product—and guide you through the process of seeking compensation for your injuries.
