Where were you when 9/11 happened?
My home state of Iowa. I was 5 years old
At work at Sears God be with all
I was sitting home watching the news.
I was teaching eighth grade English. The principal called me into the hall and told me. It was a small school and she had decided she was not telling the students as their parents pick them up at the end of the day and she was leaving it to the parents to tell them. Having just learned what happened I had to put on my Best teacher face and go back in the classroom as they all asked me what kind of trouble I was in that I got called out by the principal. I smiled a little and told them I had gotten yelled at because they had been running in the halls. It’s the best I could come up with.
I was in New York City for the first time the week before Tuesday, September 11, for the Michael Jackson 30th anniversary concerts—one on the seventh and the other on the 10th. Everyone involved in pop culture was at these shows. I flew out of LaGuardia the next morning 9/11 at 8:00 AM. I remember my mom calling me on a cell phone to ask where I was, and I told her I was 30,000 feet in the air, with no idea what was going on. We landed at Atlanta Hartsfield, and that’s when it hit me that something was very wrong. We were still on the tarmac, and they were bringing dogs onto the plane. We finally got off, and Atlanta, being one of the busiest airports in America, was only moving in one direction. When I reached the exit, nobody else was going into the airport. We made it to our car and then went to a gas station to watch the rest of the events unfold on TV. It was bizarre. I tell people all the time that every concert I’ve been to since has been a letdown after seeing Michael Jackson.
I was in my college dorm in Massachusetts. I watched the news with my roommates as the attacks were happening. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing and we all knew it wasn’t an accident. School cancelled classes. I spoke with my parents who were in Connecticut and they told me to stay at school until we knew what was going on.
I was 13 years old and in 6th grade at Talton K. Middle school in Elizabethtown, KY. I remember I was in arts and humanities and hearing over the intercom the secretary telling all teachers to turn their TVs on to the local news station, Wave 3. And I remember my teacher gasping and inching closer to the tv in the corner of our classroom. The secretary came onto the loud speaker again and announced that we were allowed to stay in the current classroom we were in if we chose to or we could proceed to the next class. I chose to stay, I was so overwhelmed and optimistic at the same time thinking this had to be by accident but judging by my teachers reactions I quickly realized this wasn’t good. It was hard for me to understand what it was that was actually happening. I remember going home and continuing to watch the news and being frightened. The biggest take away I remember from 9/11 was the patriotism I witnessed. I then understood what being an American was all about. Never forget.
I relive it every 9/11 !!! Saw it on a patient’s television and knew my daughter got her subway under the World Trade Center and hadn’t heard from her, one of the most horrible days of my life- lost neighbors and friends- I relive it every 911 !!!

I was home watching TV news when I saw the first plane fly into the tower. I was stunned and not sure it was real. Until the second plane flew into the other tower. I stood in my house in shock. Then after I learned we were attacked and people were murdered i just stood in my house crying.
I was in North Bergan, New Jersey working at the new Lowe’s that opened later that month. I was located in the back of the store when one of the truck drivers bringing in products stated that one of the towers was hit by a plane. Shortly later, a second such driver stated that a second plane hit the second tower. I stated that it was terrorists. That evening and the next 3 evenings I saw the smoke in my mirror heading home and for the next 3 mornings, I could see the smoke through my windshield. NEVER FORGET IT !!!!!!!
We were at work. They called and said turn on the TV. Was in one of my patient room. They wanted to see what was going on. We all just started to cry and praying for our country
I was at work at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board in Jackson. As soon as we realized what was happening they set up a television in our break room and we went there and watched as the horrible events happened. We had a special prayer service before they sent us home.
I was at work with no tv or radio when my daughter called to say a plane hit the tower. We both thought how could that happen. Then our driver came back to the store saying people were jumping out of windows. Then my daughter called back crying and said mom another plane just struck the towers. I knew then it was true. My granddaughter was 6 months old. I cried like a baby. I prayed

I was at work, when my husband called me and told me to tell my co workers to turn the radio on .
On this day 25 years ago I was in my Broadway office of my taxi company I owned in Newburgh, NY a city located in Orange County, NY. Newburgh being about 60 miles north of NYC right on the Hudson River. Like most mornings we were well into our day being a large, 24/7 business. We had a small TV in the office when the news of the first jet striking one of the towers. At the same time many a driver was commenting on the 2-way radio system. That morning we did, as most days had several calls bring customers into the city. We really weren’t sure how to proceed. Orange County, because of its proximity to NYC was considered a suburb of the city and was home to many, many NY firefighters and police not to mention many others who worked there. Long story short so many people in the Hudson Valley were maybe only 3 or 4 persons removed from knowing someone who was murdered that day. Also, the days that followed had an eerie, quiet silence about them on the roads and stores.

Working in surgery, after a case my friend and tech came and told us a plane crashed into one of the twin towers. The surgeon went to the doctors lounge and within minutes returns with news that a second plane crashed into the other tower. Lives changed forever, it was a quiet and eerie feeling for a bit. We all recognized the nation was under attack.
Came down from Ohio was at my parents.
I woke and turned on the tv to see a plane hit one of the towers wondering if it was real or a movie filming. I was shocked when I heard it was real and an attack.
At home in San Diego, I had just got up flipped on the TV. The first plane had hit, watched the second plane hit. I sat stunned, my husband was working swing shift so was sleeping. The air changed, he awoke, came wanting to know what was happening. Asked why I did not wake him, the reason, was that I could not comprehend what had occurred.
